Windows MCE has enabled this "feature" for your disabling convenience. In some rooms, infrared signals can bounce off reflective surfaces, and make the MCE remote's receiver see some signals twice. To prevent this, each button on the MCE remote, has multiple IR signals associated with it, and each have to come in sequence to work unless you disable this.

To use any remote control with a learn function on Microsoft Windows Media Center, you have to disable Debouncing in the media centers registry.

Recently, the Standby button on the remote control has stopped functioning; when I press the button, my computer does not go into standby mode.

The other buttons on the remote control function properly, and the standby button has only stopped functioning within the past week. They also provided a workaround, which consists of pressing another button on the remote control and then pressing the standby button.

I tried their suggested workaround but it did not work.
