Dimension 4700 drivers vista

Saturday, July 11, PM. Sunday, July 12, PM. There are multiple things in this post to be confused about, but I will guess: 1. This means is the audio built into the board or not? I asked these 2 questions so we could help you find drivers for your device and point you in the right direction as far as fixing this. However we don't even know what kind of "audio device" you have!

I don't understand what YOU mean by that, please clarify what you mean by that. OK thanks for clarifying that friends comp thing. Click the arrow next to Sound, video, and game controllers, and report back what is says there. Report any device with a question mark.

If there are any devices like this, they will probably be listed in the usually hidden "other devices" category. Try double-clicking on any device you see in the categories listed, and post back any message that looks out of the ordinary. If you feel comfortable opening the case, open the case, and report back what each of the chips black squares say on the board if your audio device is built-in on the board.

This helps determine what drivers you will need to get your device running, as Windows won't be able to tell you anything more than "it's a multimedia audio controller". If your audio device is a PCI card, also look at its chips and report back what they say.

Monday, July 13, AM. Anyway, Opening the case: instructions: Remove the cover off the left side of the computer called case when cover is off. If you have a warranty, this may void it. Go back into Device Manager, and tell me what it says under: Processors System devices This helps determine what chipset the board might have and may help in finding out what drivers you need. OK then your comp should have it built in.

This helps me verify that it is built-in. Ok now I know that your comp has a intel chipset, but which one? The system devices part narrows it down, but I can't read the comp's mind, post all the system devices. Dell says on their support and downloads that you have a "ADI x Integrated audio" device.

You might try jerry-rigging an XP driver to work, but it is a complicated process, something an average Joe might not want to do. Or look or driverguide. I'm still searching for a driver Note that the uninstall may go wacko on you if it can't find all the audio files to uninstall, if there is any audio update in there anyway.

For now just post back if there is an audio update. Boy this driver is hard to find Try this: put the windows 7 install disc into the dvd drive, go into device manager, double-click the mulitimedia audio controller, and there should be an option in the mulitimedia audio controller properties to update driver. See if that helps any You cant get windows to scan the disc for drivers?

It had to have, because you installed win7! OK just wanted to make sure that you were comfy with that and that you don't have a warranty on the comp. Anyway we figured out the type of audio device on the comp so you don't have to open it up now. You could also try using a PCI sound card, and not using the onboard sound card.

I was wondering if your comp would say something like that The normal driver seems to be for XP only, you can try using an XP driver to make it work, but note that it may take your system stability down the tubes.

You can also try to to put another sound card in, which is probably easier than jerry-rigging an XP driver. Now go to Vista Device manager, right click on the edit: multimedia audio controller sound card and "Update Drivers". Vista should then search these drivers and load the appropriate Vista drivers.

To find your xp driver easier on Dell's site, you should enter the comp's service tag. If you have no clue what that means, just post what you find on a big white sticker on the back of the computer. What you need is Vista drivers for that audio chipset. I need to check my bookmarks, will post it shortly. Never ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly". The application is improperly formatted. Contact the application vendor for assistance. My hangouts Format and Reload or Windrivers -NooNoo, I have been looking for a vista driver and don't really support using the XP driver, all research I have found points to no one made a vista driver.

However, if you can find a driver, please post the link to it Try re-downloading the driver, sounds to me like a faulty download. I already did Never ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly". My hangouts Format and Reload or Windrivers Yeah I posted that post while you were fiddling with your bookmarks You will also need to right click on the downloaded file when it's finished, select application compatibility tab and Pick Vista then check the box to run as administrator.

If not, you won't find the directory. MG which file did you download? I think it might help mgendron if you explain how to use app compatibility. When you started the download from dell, did you pick run or save? Is there a file directory in the root of the drive called "drivers" or "dell"? If you started installing this driver there will be a folder called "R" in either drivers or dell.

If that is there post back the full path to that folder. You click on the download link and a little box comes up asking if you want to run, save or cancel Which do you pick? Or do you use the dell downloader? Click Download Now, to download the file. The Save In: window appears. From the Save In: field, click the down arrow then click to select Desktop and click Save.

Search instead for. Did you mean:. Last reply by jackykeet45 Unsolved. Vista vs. Just installed vista lastnight, and there is a conflict between the soundmax soundcard driver on my dell dimension , and vista. I try to shutdown vista but instead it reboots, and i end up with an error message blue screen. Why not try this, according to that page it has been modified for Audigy It supposedly installed but when I tried using the control panel, it didn't detect anything.

Saturday, June 6, AM. OK, I can't remember the exact model of mine, I will try to dig it out over the weekend and try to figure it out, did you try installing the Dell Dimension audio drivers in compatability mode?

Can you post the hardware ids from device manager for each of these for me? Saturday, June 6, PM. Just tried both method and neither seem to worked. I also already tried allowing the device to search the internet From what I've been reading up, many people who installed or upgrade to the Build face the same problem I do. So it might be the case I'll have to wait until MS create a fix for it. I might just downgrade back to XP in the mean time after a few more attempt at this.

This don't seem to be a working link. If you will post your "hardware id" for the soundmax it may help. Also, does it still show as a "unknown device" in device manager? What sort of errors are you gtting when trying to install the drivers?

Once you get to the page with drivers listed click on the beta drivers link Edited by shakeyplace Saturday, June 6, PM. That will be fine, dou you also have that for the Audigy card? It's saying :"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.

Code 39 I'm trying the XP verison now. This is a new, win7 beta driver that definetly supports your Creative card, if it doesn't install or the link won't work post me Just tried the Vista verison and it's a no go too.

Link still not working. Yep, tried that. Edited by shakeyplace Sunday, June 7, AM. Same error both ways?
