Cancel Submit. Try resetting word to defaults. In the link below there is an easy fix to download with a blue button towards the middle of the page. Shut down Word run the fix and then start word again to see if that works. Please let me know if that helps. How satisfied are you with this reply? It would be great if you can debug the add-in in the user pc or if you are able to reproduce the error in your dev machine. I am not sure how to add code to my VSTO add-in to make it catch the Word application error - it doesn't seem to be the add-in but the word application itself that is crashing.

In your suggested code you reference ResourceProvider - what reference do I need to add to the project to make that available to my code. I'm apologize for my ignorance of the exception handling routines in VSTO but I am really struggling - if perhaps there is some type of documentation that would help, I would be happy to read it.

Thanks so much for your help - I have about 50 users really getting annoyed with the Word has shut down message! The code sample I provided is just an example of my own code; the ResourceProvider is part of one of my add-ins.

The important statements are the try-catch block and the EventLog usage. The exception handling and logging in VSTO is the same as other. NET programs. I'm trying to understand the use workflow of your solution. Does the user close Word or the add-in fires the Word shutdown? Just to understand. I did have a button on my add-in toolbar to quit the application, thus the closing the windows I just want to allow the users to close the application through the normal ways Thanks for explanation!

This is getting hard. What I can think of is that your code is blocking some Word API object or something like this, but is just a hunch. You can try commenting your code until Word doesn't crash to identify if your add-in code is the source of the problem and where. The content you requested has been removed. Ask a question.
